The Nobarn Farm dairy goat herd resides at Freedom Ranch, located in scenic Hubbardsville, NY-above the Chenango River Valley.
All the fun started in 1997 with just a few chickens living in an old tool shed. In 1999 I was given 2 lovely grade Alpine doelings from Goat Hill Farm for my birthday. Lily and Daisy were a delight, and soon we had more! Over the years we upgraded to American Alpines, Saanens, recorded grades and experimented with Nigerian Dwarfs. The goat herd is kept small to so we can enjoy each does individual personalities and still have time for other activities.
We enjoy showing and currently attend 4 or 5 open shows each year. Home cheesemaking is one of my main interests. Each year I submit an entry to the American Dairy Goat Association National cheese competition, with some exciting results: my Marinated Feta won Amateur Best in Show at the 2010 ADGA convention, my Good Natured Goat earned Reserve Amateur Best in Show in 2012, Soused Goat earned BEST in Show for 2013, and Hedgrerow hard cheese was Amateur Best in Show in 2015!!! The goats also travel throughout the community spreading "goatwill" at libraries, schools, moviehouses and senior centers. We participate in CAE prevention (all our goats are neg. for CAE/CL/Johnes, fall 2016), LA and DHIA testing. We are members of ADGA, NYSDGBA, and alumini of 4-H and FFA.
Why Nobarn Farm? Because we hadn't enjoyed the luxuries of a 'real barn' up until 2012. Our housing consisted of a shed complex. The herd now enjoys life on 26 acres, with access to a roomy barn & run-in shed.
